Anyone out there playing, or interested in playing APB? If so look me up as ConchyJoe or RickHunter on the Zombie server.
For those who don't know what APB is, it stands for All Points Bulletin and essentially is a Grand Theft Auto 3rd Person Shooter/MMO. The best explination I can provided for the gameplay is a cross between Gears of War and Planetside. Gears of War for the smaller scale group vs group tactical 3rd person shooter and Planetside for the gear/character development within a FPS.
A typical game session will put you in an instanced zone with up to 50 players per faction. There are two total player factions, so instances cap at around 100 players. Groups are limited to 4 people and typical "missions" end up pitting you against a comparable team of players from the opposite faction. So 100 people total, broken down into in a handfull of fights between different teams/groups all over the map. In addition, there is a "call for backup" mechanic which allows a losing team to request backup from other members of their faction in the zone, and possibly expanding combat beyond 4v4 up into the teens (most I've personally seen is 13ish per side).
There is a lot more depth to the game, however limited engagement group vs group within an RvR open world setting is the core gameplay. It is also one of those games which can be palyed casual or hardcore without too signifcant and advantage going to hardcore players (most things requiring significant investments of time are for asthetics and can even be traded/sold on the marketplace).
If you are reading this Fom, you so NEED to try this one out. Although not exactly the same, it'll be a good flashback to our times riding around in an enforcer/vangard blowing up TR and Vanu. Hell we could even recreate the NC uniforms and vehicle paint schemes for extra kicks >:).
